According to several Reddit posts, AT&T Wireless is testing a free 30-day network trial, reportedly available in 8 undisclosed test markets. To access the trial where available, users need to use the myAT&T app.
We Talk Wireless has not yet been able to independently verify these claims.
AT&T’s trial includes:
- 100GB of high-speed data
- 25GB of hotspot data
- Unlimited talk and text
- A new number
Customers can activate the plan instantly via eSIM. They don’t need to port their numbers or change service providers. This allows users to seamlessly try AT&T’s network without any long-term commitments or disruptions to their current service.
There are several free trial offers currently available in the market. According to Compare Wireless Carriers, which tracks these offers, there are around 10 trials in existence. To date, AT&T has been the lone major carrier to not offer one. Although in 2021, they did offer a limited trial of their 4G network to small businesses and it required the use of a hotspot.
For over two years T-Mobile has offered some sort of free trial with unlimited data. T-Mobile’s current offer is Network Pass which includes unlimited talk, text, and data for 90 days. For over a year, Verizon Wireless has been offering a free 30 day trial. Verizon’s prepaid brand Visible, offers a free trial that doesn’t even require the use of a credit card. It’s unclear if AT&T’s offer requires payment details to be submitted at sign up.
Free trial offers are a great way to encourage customers who are hesitant to switch networks to try a new one. The use of eSIM generally makes it quick and easy for potential subscribers to do so.
Update 10/23/2024: AT&T has released the trial offer out of beta and it’s now available for anyone with an eSIM compatible iPhone to try.
