MobileX, a highly customizable wireless service provider that uses A.I. to recommend plans to subscribers has begun rolling out a significant update to its network today. Subscribers who receive the update may notice reduced latency, faster data speeds, and improved reliability. New customers will also benefit from a smoother onboarding experience, including automatic APN configuration—a welcome improvement for iPhone users who have previously had to manually download APN profiles to connect to MobileX’s network.
Network Rollout and Customer Notifications
The network update is being rolled out to customers in batches and will continue through September 30, 2024. Existing subscribers will receive text messages and email instructions containing a link to update their devices, allowing them to take advantage of the new network improvements. Customers must complete the upgrade steps before September 30. Those who do not complete the process by this date will lose mobile internet access.
The upgrade requires MobileX subscribers to update their phone’s APN (Access Point Name) profile. The APN will switch from MX5G.VZWENTP
to VZWINTERNET
. However, subscribers should not attempt to manually update their APNs before receiving the official notification, as doing so will cause data connectivity to stop working.
CEO Peter Adderton Weighs In
MobileX CEO and founder Peter Adderton addressed the update in a press release, stating:
“We’ve listened closely to our customers, and their feedback has driven us to make these major network improvements, which will enhance the entire MobileX experience from activation to daily usage.”
Adderton also shared that in his own tests, the network delivered up to three times faster data speeds and halved latency. Most importantly, these enhancements come at no additional cost to subscribers.
Why the Update Matters
Previously, MobileX operated through a cloud-based core network, routing customer connections through specific locations before reaching Verizon’s network. The new APN update signals that MobileX traffic will likely now connect directly to Verizon’s network, cutting out this intermediary step. This change likely explains why subscribers are expected to have faster data speeds and lower latency.
A Brief History of MobileX
MobileX initially launched as a beta service in November 2022 and exited beta in February 2023. The Verizon-powered MVNO sells SIM kits and phones through Walmart and its website, with some wireless dealers also carrying the brand. MobileX has made a name for itself by offering customizable plans tailored to individual data needs, with A.I. technology assisting users in predicting how much data they’ll use.
